Youth Sports & Wellness committee

The newly established Greystones Youth Sport and Wellness SubGroup has officially launched, driven by a vision to empower young people to shape the future of sports and wellness in the community. Comprised of local students, the group provides a platform for youth leadership and representation, ensuring that the voices of Transition Year and fifth-year students are at the forefront of decision-making. The SubGroup aims to create inclusive programs, advocate for the needs of young people, and foster a sense of well-being through sports and wellness initiatives.

“This is a momentous occasion for all of us,” said Cllr. Barry Chair of the GTT Subgroup. “Today marks the beginning of a platform where young people can truly express their needs and interests. As Transition Year and fifth-year students, you possess a unique understanding of what your peers require to thrive in sports and wellness. Your voices will be pivotal in shaping the direction of this committee.”

Tom O'Mahony, Chair of the Greystones Town Team (GTT), expressed his support for the initiative:

"The formation of the Greystones Youth, Sports and Wellness Subgroup is a significant step forward for our community. It is a joy to see young people actively participating on this scale in shaping the future of sports and wellness in our area. This initiative aligns perfectly with GTT’s mission of fostering a vibrant and inclusive community that caters to all age groups. The insights and energy these young leaders bring to the table will be invaluable in developing programs and facilities that truly meet the needs of our youth.

Greystones Town Team is delighted to support this endeavour and looks forward to collaborating closely with the group to enhance the sporting and wellness opportunities for all in Greystones.”

The committee introduced its founding members, including Kate Macadam, Ella Andrews, Sean Griffin, Jamesie Cahill and Dean Barry—representatives from the town’s largest sports clubs: Greystones United, Greystones Rugby Club, Greystones Lawn Tennis Club, Greystones Sharks and Éire Óg Greystones. Cllr. Barry encouraged other clubs to get involved, saying, “If your club wishes to have representation on this important committee, please reach out to the Mark at mbarry@wicklowcoco.ie ”
